Wilstone activities
If you like walking,
Wilstone offers many good circular walks through varied terrain.
The reservoirs and canal towpaths are the most popular.
Many paths to the north of the village just meander through green fields
and into quiet lanes. A local would say go down by "duffeses" and through
the "millopers".
Try a
Circular Walk and have a break or lunch at the Half Moon.
A special area
for bird watching and wildlife.
The Tring Reservoirs are bird watching hot spots and
frequently attract rarer birds.
Walking quietly along canal you may catch sudden flash of iridescent blue
as Kingfisher flies past, or disturb a Heron. Also watch for Kestrels, Sparrow Hawks and woodpeckers.
Flocks of Lapwing feed in surrounding fields and Pollarded willows are home Little Owls. Noisy parties Long Tail Tits move rapidly and noisily through the thicker hedgerows.
Great fishing in the Grand Union Canal
Roach, Perch Rudd and in some areas Chub and Tench can
be found. Large double figure Carp are taken regularly so be warned do
not fish too light.
A car park and swims for disabled anglers are situated
by the Wooden Bridge.
